UA Professor Crunches the Numbers with Local Middle School Students
By Michael Washington In the midst of the nationwide credit and mortgage crises, 17 middle-schoolers spent two weeks at UA this summer learning lessons that many Americans are now learning the hard way. They were the inaugural class of Camp Cash, a two-week program focused on personal finance and money management. Dr. Jan Brakefield, assistant professor of consumer sciences and leader of the camp, says the students came from local middle schools and as far away as Montgomery as a result of their parents’ need to teach an important lesson early.
