Events
Spring Commencement Ceremonies
UA will hold its spring commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 10, in Coleman Coliseum. Two University-wide commencement ceremonies will be held this year, at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., to award degrees. Doctoral recipients, education specialist, and master’s degree candidates participate with their division. At the 9 a.m. ceremony, the Colleges of Education, Nursing, Communication & Information Sciences, and Commerce and Business Administration will award their degrees. At 1 p.m., degrees will be conferred in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Human Environmental Sciences, and the School of Social Work. The School of Law will have its ceremony at 5 p.m.
CrossingPoints Event
The sixth annual CrossingPoints Gala and Awards Ceremony will be held May 7, 6-8 p.m., Ferguson Center Ballroom. The event also includes a graduation ceremony for 11 students. Information: 348-3180, amwilliamson@bamaed.ua.edu
Homegrown Alabama
Homegrown Alabama farmers market will run every Thursday from May 1 to Oct. 9 (except May 22 and July 3), 3-6:30 p.m., lawn of Canterbury Chapel at the corner of Hackberry Lane and Ninth Street. Healthy Habits
“Healthy Habits – Live Them, Teach Them!” is a 90-minute session of the Alabama Governor’s Conference on Obesity: Prevention, Assessment and Treatment, June 12, 3:30 p.m., Bryant Conference Center. The session is open to the University at no cost (limit 100). Presenters: Todd Whitthorne, president and COO, Cooper Concepts, Inc., Cooper Clinic, Dallas, Texas, and Melissa Johnson, executive director, President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, Department of Health and Human Services, Washington, D.C. Audubon Meets T.P. Thompson Meets the Elusive Ivory-Billed Woodpecker
This exhibit focuses on J.J. Audubon, the ornithologist and artist; T.P. Thompson, a book collector; and the ivory-billed woodpecker, a bird that was documented by Audubon and recently has been spotted and made international news. The exhibit will run May 5- Aug. 29, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Hoole Library, second floor, Mary Harmon Bryant Hall.
