Marina MayoralSpanish Author to Speak
Marina Mayoral, a Spanish writer and scholar, will give a talk titled “Cómo nace, vive y muere un personaje de novella,” Nov. 12, 3 p.m., 205 Gorgas Library. After her talk, she will offer a roundtable discussion (in English) about the creative process. Refreshments will be served. This event is sponsored by the department of modern languages and classics, Capstone International Center, the Creative Campus Initiative, and the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Sylviane DioufDreams of Africa in Alabama
Dr. Sylviane Diouf, noted historian and author, will talk about her latest book, Dreams of Africa in Alabama: The Slave Ship Clotilda and the Story of the Last Africans Brought to America (Oxford University Press, 2007), Nov. 13, 4:30 p.m., Gorgas Library. Diouf is a curator at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in New York City and recipient of 2007 Wesley-Logan Prize in African Diaspora History of the American Historical Association. The pre-professional dance company of UA comes to life this fall with a concert choreographed by the dance faculty. From ballet to jazz, from modern to folk, the Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre offers a diverse array of the traditional and the avant-garde.
