Archaeologists Explore Salt’s Well Preserved Impact on Earlier Societies

If you were living 1,000 years ago, among your primary concerns would have been obtaining salt. Yep, sodium chloride… good ol’ table salt.
Although we take it for granted today, Dr. Ian Brown says of salt, “Wars have been fought about it. Wars have been won and lost as a result of it. Think of it as analogous to oil today. If we don’t have it, we have to get it from someone who does, if we want to satisfy that need.”
