UA Continues NCAA Athletics Certification ProcessThe University is currently completing its self-study as part of the process to recertify its athletics program as part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Athletics Certification program. The self-study, conducted by a steering committee and three subcommittees under the direction of UA Provost Judy Bonner, covers academic integrity, governance and commitment to rules compliance, as well as commitment to equity and student-athlete welfare. The University’s self-study report is due to the NCAA by May 1. The recertification process will continue in the fall when an external team of reviewers will conduct an evaluation visit on campus. The peer review team will report to the NCAA Division I Committee on Athletics Certification, which will then determine the institution’s certification status and announce the decision publicly. The process is expected to be completed by February 2008. For more information, please go to http://provost.ua.edu/ncaa/. Questions should be directed to Bonner; Chris King, associate athletic director for compliance; or Dr. Joe Hornsby, faculty athletics representative. |
