Schlesinger Named Winner of Burnum Distinguished Faculty Award
By Bill Gerdes Risk, or the management of risk, is second nature to Dr. Harris Schlesinger, professor of finance and the Frank Park Samford Chair of Insurance at the Culverhouse College of Commerce. Perhaps influenced by earlier hobbies, such as driving a race car and ice climbing, Schlesinger deals with risk management, the complicated process of measuring, assessing, and developing strategies to deal with risk. Traditional risk management focuses on risks stemming from physical or legal causes, such as natural disasters or fires, accidents, death and lawsuits. And Schlesinger, recently named the winner of UA’s 2006 Burnum Distinguished Faculty Award, is one of the world’s top insurance scholars and researchers in the field. |
