Alabama Public Radio to Host NPR’s StoryCorpsAlabama Public Radio at UA will host National Public Radio’s StoryCorps Nov. 3-21. StoryCorps is an unprecedented national project that invites ordinary Americans to interview one another and record personal stories in their own words. A StoryCorps mobile recording booth, housed in an Airstream trailer, will be at 503 Main Ave. in downtown Northport during the 18-day visit. The StoryCorps booth will be open daily except Tuesdays. To make a reservation to record an interview, follow the links from the Alabama Public Radio Web site at www.apr.org, or call 800-850-4406. StoryCorps representatives will be available to facilitate interviews. At the end of the 40-minute session, participants will receive a broadcast-quality CD of their interview. With their permission, a second copy will be archived at the Library of Congress, providing generations to come with access to these moving stories. NPR, Saturn Corp., a division of General Motors, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the Library of Congress are sponsoring StoryCorps. SGA Announces Capstone MarketThe Student Government Association will hold its first Capstone Market Wednesday, Nov. 30 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the ballroom of Ferguson Center. The purpose of the event is to raise money for book scholarships for students. “The idea behind the event is to have a market atmosphere where businesses around the community can set up their products and sell to students, faculty and staff,” said Jessica Juliano, SGA fundraising committee chair. “This is one of the busiest times of the year, and this is a great way for anyone to do all of their holiday shopping in one place.” In addition to shopping, attendees can enjoy food, music and door prizes. “The SGA is trying to provide a service to University students and raise money for a great cause at the same time,” said Juliano. |
