Considering Retirement?

UA employees who are considering retirement in the next few months should be aware that there are changes coming in the premiums for PEEHIP - the Public Education Employees Health Insurance Plan. Upcoming changes in the PEEHIP premiums will mean that employees who retire with less than 25 years of service will be required to pay more for PEEHIP coverage. This increase will be effective Oct. 1, 2005. Employees who retire by Sept. 1, 2005 will be unaffected by this premium increase. Employees who are at least age 60 and have less than 25 years of service may want to consider retiring by Sept. 1 in order to avoid the increase in premiums. For detailed information about any aspect of retirement, contact Sandra Abrams, Benefits Manager, 348-7732. You may read about the changes to PEEHIP by logging onto the PEEHIP Web site at www.rsa.state.al.us/PEEHIP/peehip.htm

HR Policies Revised

Two new policies, Overtime and Compensatory Time for Non-Exempt Employees and Compensation for Non-Exempt Employees Who Work during University Closings, were communicated and implemented in December 2004.
The policies have been revised effective June1, 2005. The primary changes are as follows:

  • Policy #601.00, Compensation for Non-Exempt Employees Who Work During University Closings, has been revised to make it clearer how employees should be paid when they work during times the University is officially closed.
  • Policy #602.00, Overtime and Compensatory Time for Non-Exempt Employees, has been revised to reflect that effective June 1, 2005, holiday hours will count toward hours worked when computing overtime for staff employees.
  • Both policies now state that specific questions regarding completion of time records for non-exempt employees should be directed to the Payroll Office. It is the responsibility of the Payroll Office to make the final determination on how to accurately record hours worked.
Contact Human Resources at 348-8213 with questions or go to the Web site for further information: http://hr.ua.edu/empl_rel/policy-manual/index.htm.
