Alabama Credit Union Recognized, Espey HonoredAt the recent Alabama Credit Union League Annual Meeting, the Alabama Credit Union was recognized as the top- performing credit union of its size in the state. For the third time in the past five years, Alabama Credit Union earned the League's Merit Award, reflecting its outstanding member service, financial performance, and commitment to community service. The ACU is celebrating its 50th year at UA. Melford Espey was named the Alabama Credit Union League Volunteer of the Year. The honor is the most coveted award given by the League each year. Mr. Espey was recognized not only for his 30-plus years of volunteer work as a board member of ACU, but also for his willingness to give of his time in support of other community organizations. Prior to his retirement, Mel was a fixture on UA's campus, serving in the Student Services Department, and is also remembered as the first Big Al, the Crimson Tide mascot that is now nationally recognized. Alabama Credit Union, organized in 1956, is a not-for- profit financial institution headquartered in Tuscaloosa. It serves 30,000 members from 12 locations in Tuscaloosa, Madison, Fayette and Baldwin counties. Members' accounts are federally insured to $100,000 by NCUA, and additionally insured to $250,000 by American Share Insurance. Its Web address is www.AlabamaCU.com. FRC Offering WebCT WorkshopsThe WEBCT is a free course management tool and a component of every UA course. The Faculty Resource Center will offer a series of workshops June 6-July 29. The workshops go on every day through June and July from 8-9 a.m. Monday-Friday in A232 Gordon Palmer, and each workshop repeats on the same day every week. For example, there will be the exact same workshop on quizzes every Friday, so a faculty member can catch it any week throughout the two months. A faculty member does not need to complete every workshop in one week; he/she can do one one week and a different one the next. It is designed so that the faculty member has the most flexibility on when he/she attends. Visit www.frc.ua.edu or e-mail Susan Lucas at susan@frc.ua.edu.
