Parking Registration Underway

Application forms for faculty/staff parking for the 2005-2006 academic year have been mailed to all faculty and staff.

Several new parking lots and decks have increased the number of parking spaces on campus by 3,000: the Ferguson deck expansion of 500 spaces, the addition of the Campus Drive deck with 632 spaces and 216 surface spots, and the opening of the new North ten Hoor deck expansion this fall with 669 spaces and 61 new surface spaces.

To fund the improvements of the past three years, during which time parking fees have not increased, and provide for future improvements, it is necessary to increase annual registration rates to $80.

At $80 per year, parking costs on campus average less than $7 per month. UA ranks in the lower half for faculty/staff parking rates of 16 schools surveyed including all the Southeastern Conference schools. Fees at these institutions range from no charge at the University of South Carolina to $1,152 at the University of North Carolina. The full survey is available at www.bamaparking.ua.edu/survey.

Some important parking changes for 2005-2006 are as follows:

  • The regular parking permit fee may be payroll deducted in four monthly installments (for exempt employees) or eight biweekly installments (for non-exempt employees) in pre-tax dollars.
  • The parking deck visitor fee will increase from $1 to $3 per day.
  • Significant changes are also taking place with reserved permit lots. New reserved lots are being added in the ten Hoor parking deck and south of Rose Administration building. For more information on reserved lots and fees, go to www.bamaparking.ua.edu/reservedlots. The deadline for application is June 1.

To sign up for payroll deduction of parking fees and auto-renewal, return the signed original application to Transportation Services, Box 870179, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487. To receive your parking permit by mail by Aug. 15, the application must be received on or before June 1. Parking registration for those electing not to participate in auto-renewal will begin Aug. 1. Those employees should bring their completed forms to the Transportation Services office in 103 Student Services Center.
