by John Kasberg, Risk Analyst When is the employee health fair and who can attend? The 9th annual UA employee health fair will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the new South Gymnasium of the Student Recreation Center. This year's health fair theme is "Opening New Doors." Only UA employees and retirees who show their ACT card will be admitted into the health fair. No one under age 18 is allowed into the health fair. Parking is on the lower end of the north side of the Student Recreation Center only. What will be at the health fair? Over 90 health care providers, vendors and sponsors will be on-hand to provide free medical screening tests and services in the areas listed below. UA employees and retirees will be given a green "Health Fair Check List Card" when registering at the south entrance. The top of the card contains four coupons to get one sample of refreshments from Coca-Cola and a small food sample from Arby's, Smoothie King or Subway. Fill-out the bottom half of the check list card with your name, home department and telephone number. Drop that bottom portion of the checklist card into the "raffle barrel" just inside the South Gymnasium to win a door prize. The grand door prize will be a one-year free single membership to the Student Recreation Center. Have the bottom portion of the card "punched or checked" each time you get one of the Fair's seven free health tests, screenings or services. Who will be the special guests? Alabama coaches from various sports will be in a special "Coaches Corner" inside the South Gymnasium from 9 a. m. until later. Big Al may come at some time during the day. Door Prizes: Each UA employee or UA retiree participating in the fair may fill-out the bottom half of the green checklist card and drop into the "raffle drum" at the south (front) entrance to the health fair to hopefully win a door prize. The grand prize will be a free one-year single membership to the Student Recreation Center. However, you must get at least two health tests done to qualify for this door prize. Some vendors may give away door prizes at random. You must be a UA employee or UA retiree to win a door prize. All winners will be contacted by telephone in a day or so after the Health Fair is over. You must show your UA Action Card to claim a door prize. Acknowledgements: This year's Health Fair would not be possible without the generous help and cooperation of the University's Student Recreation Center, Financial Affairs, Human Resources, the new University Medical Center, the Capstone College of Nursing, the College of Human Environmental Sciences, The Department of Health Sciences, The Department of Communicative Disorders, University Relations, UA Coaches, Special Services, plus many health care providers, vendors, sponsors and volunteers, who work hard to make UA's Health Fair a success. So, stay healthy, exercise, eat right and come to the Health Fair on Oct. 27. Questions about the fair? Call John Kasberg at 348-8874 or e-mail him at jkasberg@fa.ua.edu. UA's CQI Office Names TeamUA's Office of Continuous Quality Improvement and Planning has recently named members to the Sustained Growth Team. This team will be authorized to identify and analyze actual and potential issues related to the increases in student enrollment. The team will also look at existing processes and develop new ones that will support enrollment growth. UA President Robert E. Witt has identified growing student enrollment to 28,000 over the next decade as a major piece in reaching goals outlined in his Strategic Plan: 2004-2014 (see related story page 2). The team is one among several already formed or to be formed in order to support the plan. This team will identify and resolve problems that might impede sustained growth, including issues related to course scheduling, enrollment in courses, course availability, and other student services. Team members are:
