Capstone Convocation
Tuesday, Aug. 24 — 2004-05 Capstone Convocation for new students,
faculty and staff. Attendees will gather at the steps of Gorgas Library to process to Woods
Quad at approximately 8 p.m. while UA's Wind Ensemble plays. SGA President Hal Mooty will
join UA President Robert E. Witt in welcoming all new students. Everyone will recite the
Capstone Creed.

- A Legacy of Warmth and Vitality: The Mansion, the Presidents, and Their Families
at The University of Alabama — This exhibition was assembled in conjunction
with the UA Past Presidents Family Reunion, held on June 19. The exhibit features photographs,
artifacts, manuscript materials, and published materials relating to UA's past presidents
and current president, as well as historical materials from the University's rich past
through today. Included is an original plan of the campus and ledgers from the University's
earliest days, as well as the copy of the Koran that was purported to have been rescued
from the library when the campus was burned by federal troops in 1864. Also featured
are unique items such as the modest desk used by President George Denny during his presidency
in the 1920s and 30s. In addition, an online exhibition of the Presidents' Portraits
housed at Hoole can be viewed at www.lib.ua.edu/libraries/hoole/digital/presidents/index1.html.
The exhibit will be on display in the lobby of the W.S. Hoole Special Collections Library

- The UA Press has announced a new imprint, Fire Ant Books. One of the first to be printed
in this imprint is The Constant Circle: H.L. Mencken and His Friends by Sara
Mayfield with an introduction by Edmund Wilson. The Fire Ant Books, billed as "books
with a bite," are trade paperback books that focus on a wide variety of topics with
national appeal.

Kickoff on the Quad — Come out to the Quad three
hours before home football games between the Crimson Tide and opponents to experience Kickoff
on the Quad, UA's "official tailgate party." Kickoff on the Quad festivities include
a variety of food vendors, interactive game area, and Legends Autograph tent. Fans can also
see Eli Gold and Kenny Stabler at the Crimson Tide Sports Network pregame show site and
browse Crimson Tide clothing and souvenirs from the Supe Store. Then, join the Million Dollar
Band for the Elephant Stomp to the stadium, which begins about an hour before the game.
