Take 6 — Friday, Sept. 10

This award-winning Christian sextet broke new ground in a cappella in the 80s, paving the way for the popular revival of R&B vocal groups. Their jazz harmonies, original songs and vocal pyrotechnics represent some of the best a cappella ever recorded. The one constant for Take 6 is their spiritual foundations and their richly layered and uniquely fashioned harmonies.

Pianist Orli has established an impressive international reputation as one of today's most gifted young pianists. Social Work Calling for Family Caregiver Volunteers

A five-year study about family caregiving to older family members, Family Relationships in Late Life (FRILL), is looking for volunteers to participate in the project. FRILL is being funded by a grant from the National Institute on Aging and is taking place in the areas in and around Athens, Ga., Pittsburgh, and Tuscaloosa. The Alabama segment is being conducted by UA's School of Social Work. Investigators, Drs. Jordan Kosberg and Debra Nelson-Gardell, from the UA School of Social Work, and Dr. Forrest Scogin, from the UA department of psychology, are studying the experiences of family and friends who provide care to older persons. Care recipients and caregivers will both participate in this project:

Care recipients are to be over the age of 60 and have an illness or disability that requires some assistance in the performance of activities of daily living (i.e., bathing, eating, shopping). Caregivers are to be family or friends over the age of 21 who live with the older care recipient. At the conclusion of this study, it is anticipated that analyses will provide findings on the differences in the caregiving experience, if any, by geographic area, gender, race, and time in the caregiving role. Upon completion of each interview, both the caregiver and the care recipient will each receive a check in the amount of $25. For more information about this project and its need for volunteers, contact Cynthia Timmons, B.S.W., at 348-7027.
