Task Force to Review Physical Security and Building Access on Campus

UA President Robert E. Witt and the executive committee of the University has called for an initiative to look at physical security and building access. In response, a task force has been created to review all issues related to physical security and building access across campus and to create a unified and comprehensive plan and timeline for instituting that plan.

Members of the task force, who will be representing a variety of areas of the campus, are:

  • Police — Steve Tucker, convener and facilitator
  • Auxiliary Services — Gina Johnson, convener and facilitator
  • Security Tech — Larry Montgomery
  • IT — Dr. Priscilla Hancock, Susan Hunter, Shane Merritt
  • Action Card — Jeanine Brooks
  • Facilities — Thad Turnipseed
  • Finance — Reba Essary
  • Research — Dr. Keith McDowell
  • Telecommunications — Patty Benton

User Groups

  • C&BA — Marilee Brown-Wells, Glenda Leasor
  • Athletics — Dr. Finus Gaston
  • A&S — Dr. Carmen Taylor
  • Student Affairs — Molly Lawrence
  • Engineering — Dean Tim Greene, Dr. Lawrence Hill
  • Student Receivables — Carlene Jones

One of the tasks will be to identify the best technology to unify the process of entry to buildings based on one database. Other considerations include the kind of card or ID needed, alarm technology, central monitoring, possible integration with community public safety offices, and more.

Dialog will continue to update UA faculty and staff on the progress and timeline for implementation of this important safety measure.
