  • Through Feb. 29 — Quilts from Gee's Bend. In honor of African-American Heritage Month, Quilts from Gee's Bend: an exhibit featuring two quilts, on loan from local collectors. Quilts, designed and handmade by the women in this small Alabama town, have been exhibited across the United States.

  • Victorian Exotica: Japanese Design Influence in 19th Century Decorative Trade Binding Styles. Hoole Special Collections Library that feature Japanese style and design elements, as well as traditional Japanese books and binding from the l9th and early 20th centuries. March 1-31.

Tide After Ten, Ferguson Center — Movie Screening: Kill Bill: Vol. I

Kill Bill: Vol. I, rated R, stars Uma Thurman, David Carradine, Lucy Liu, Michael Madsen, Sonny Chiba. Uma Thurman is going to KILL BILL, in Quentin Tarantino's latest film about a former assassin betrayed by her boss, Bill (David Carradine). Four years after surviving a bullet in the head, the bride (Thurman) emerges from a coma and swears revenge on her former master and his deadly squad of international assassins. Ferguson Theater. Feb. 26-29. Admission is $1 Cash or Bama Cash. For show times call 348-6063.

Feb. 28 — Nightingale Day

A fun-filled day of exploration into the educational and career opportunities in nursing. Ferguson Center Theatre, 9 a.m. Admission is free and open to all high school and transfer students interested in pursuing a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) at UA. March 6 — Run for the Roses 5K Race

Project R.O.S.E. (Recycled Oil Saves Energy), the volunteer used motor oil recycling program for the state of Alabama, is inviting the public to participate in the seventh annual "Run for the Roses" 5K race. The certified race begins at 8:30 a.m. and will be followed by the Rosebud onemile fun run, an awards ceremony and door prizes. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. near the UA Riverside Amphitheater on race day. The cost for the Rosebud one-mile fun run is $5. Entry fees are $12 before March 4, $15 day of race. March 6 — Flava Fest 2004

A cultural event that exhibits all of the various cultures at the Capstone. Dinner will be provided. Sponsored by the International Student Association. Feb. 25 — Tony Bolden's Afro-Blue: Reading, Reception, and Signing

Tony Bolden, assistant professor of English at UA, will speak and sign copies of Afro-Blue: Improvisations in African American Poetry and Culture, 4:30 p.m. Free and open to the public. (See related article). An exhibition of African-American literature and music-related materials from the W.S. Hoole Special Collections Library, curated by Bolden and Jessica Lacher-Feldman from the Hoole Library, will be on display in conjunction with African-American Heritage Month.

Feb. 26 — "Toleration and Espionage: Polish Counter-Intelligence and the Soviet Terror-Famine, 1926-1933"

Professor Timothy Snyder, department of history and director of the Undergraduate Program in Russian and East European Studies, Yale University. 7-8:30 p.m. in ten Hoor Hall, room 30. Free and open to the public.

March 4 — Poetry Reading and Talk, Dr. Hank A. Lazer

Dr. Hank A. Lazer will read from his recently published book of poetry, Elegies & Vacations, and will talk about the book. Gorgas Library Second Floor Lobby, 4 p.m. (See related article.)
