UA Professional Staff Asked to Take Survey on Creation of Representative Professional Staff AssemblyThe Professional Staff Committee, a University standing committee, has proposed the establishment of a representative Professional Staff Assembly, which shall function as an elected and participatory assembly of regular, full-time professional staff to advise the Office of the President on matters pertaining to the institution and its mission. UA President Dr. Robert E. Witt has approved the proposal. The committee is asking all professional staff to take the survey on UA's website to determine the level of interest in establishing the assembly. From the committee site at http://committees.ua.edu, go to the Professional Staff Committee home page at http://bama.ua.edu/~prostaff/. Links to both the proposal and the survey are located on the left-hand column. For further information contact committee chair Roy Gregg at 348-8552 or e-mail prostaff@bama.ua.edu. UA Faculty Senate Condemns Hate MessageUA's Faculty Senate passed the following Resolution at its January meeting: Resolution in Condemnation of Hate Message That Was Scrawled on the Door of the Campus NAACP Office Be it resolved that the Faculty Senate of the University of Alabama condemns the message that was scrawled on the door of the campus NAACP office on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004. That racist slur is a completely unacceptable message for any campus at any time, but especially for The University of Alabama in the twenty- first century — and this instance is particularly contemptible because it was written anonymously, a terrorist tactic. We invite all segments of the campus community to join us in condemnation. We further invite the immediate response of our University's Administration, to oppose this kind of message and to eradicate racism on this campus. |
