'Opening Doors': UA to Mark 40th Anniversary of Desegregation
Throughout 2003, UA will reflect upon and celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first successful enrollment of African-American students at the University through a series of presentations and events. "Opening Doors," a three-day program, is planned for June 9-11 to commemorate the events of June 11, 1963, when Vivian Malone (now Vivian Malone Jones) and James Hood enrolled at UA following then-Gov. George Wallace's famous "stand in the schoolhouse door." |
