The Bankhead Series of English and History Lectures and Presentations This year's history series is "Terrorism and Counter Insurgency: Historical Perspective on the American Experience." Each talk will examine a portion of the historical background that adds perspective to today's current events. Feb. 18 -- Bankhead Lecture Series -- Native Americans on the Great Plains. Paul Hutton, professor of history at the University of New Mexico and executive director of the Western History Association, is author of, among other books and articles, Phil Sheridan and His Army (1985) and The Custer Reader (1992) -- 30 ten Hoor Hall, 7:30 p.m. Feb. 20 -- Bankhead Visiting Writers Series -- Robert Creeley. Robert Creeley, one of the most influential American poets of the 20th Century, will read a selection of his latest poetry -- 205 Smith Hall, 7:30 p.m. Creeley will also lead an informal discussion with students at noon in 301 Morgan Hall on Friday, Feb. 21. Feb. 19 and 26 -- Civil Rights In Alabama: Understanding The Movement Through Film. In celebration of African American Heritage Month, the department of history proudly presents a film series on the Civil Rights Movement in Alabama. The third film in the series is "Crisis: Behind a Presidential Commitment," a behind the scenes documentary look at Alabama Gov. George Wallace's 1963 stand in the schoolhouse door -- 30 ten Hoor Hall, 7 p.m. Information is available via The University of Alabama official athletic Web site at www.rolltide.com.
