Tonea Stewart and the Realizing the Dream Community Choir Headline 2003 Martin Luther King Jr. Concert

Tonea Stewart and the Realizing the Dream Community Choir, conducted by Marcia Hood, a UA graduate student, will highlight the 13th annual Martin Luther King Jr. "Realizing the Dream" event at the Moody Music Concert Hall, on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for the performance are $15 and will go on sale at 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, at the Moody Music Hall box office. For more information on tickets, call 348-7111.

Stewart is a native of Greenwood, Miss., and has lived in Montgomery since 1990. She is a tenured professor and director of theatre arts at Alabama State University. She also is a veteran professional actress who has both television and movie credits. She has had roles in "A Time to Kill," "Mississippi Burning," "Tara," and "Roses," just to name a few.

Sponsored in conjunction with Stillman College and Shelton State Community College, the annual event serves as a lasting tribute to the life and memory of Martin Luther King Jr. by presenting some of America's best-known performers from the stage, screen and recording studio. Past performers have included Al Green, Ossie Davis, Sidney Poitier, Roberta Flack, Harry Belafonte, Cicely Tyson and Take 6.

Winter Dates Available for UA's Bay Point Condo

Winter "Time-out" dates are available at the University's Bay Point condominium in Panama City, Fla. for University faculty, staff and retirees in December, January and February. The condo sleeps six adults and is located in the Marriott Complex on St. Andrews Bay. Club Meadows and Lagoon Legend Golf Courses may be used by four condo residents during their stay at no additional cost (except golf cart). Swimming is also available.

The condo is equipped with a washer and dryer, as well as many other amenities. There is a $30 cleaning fee per visit. Winter rates are now in effect -- $75 per night, and dates are available for renting.

Holiday Tree Lighting Scheduled

Recognizing campus diversity, the members of the Independent Voters Association (IVA) are inviting all campus organizations, faculty and staff to submit ornaments to decorate the tree. The ceremony will take place in front of Rose Administration Building on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 4:30 p.m. Friends and family are welcome. For information on submitting ornaments, contact Joey Crabill in the IVA office at 348-2416.

UA Holiday Season Reflects Diverse Cultures

UA's Human Relations Council encourages all faculty, staff, and students to be aware of the variety of religions and celebrations that represent our campus population and occur throughout the year. During December, and January, many different faiths enjoy a myriad of special religious observances, holidays, and festivals, including Baha'i, Hinduism, Sikhism, Islam, Janism, Judaism, Christianity, Unitarianism and Shinto. More information regarding religious celebrations around the world and within our campus community can be seen on the Web at www.interfaithcalendar.org.

Dialog Announces Spring Production Schedule and Reminders

The first Dialog of 2003 will be dated Jan. 20 with the deadline being Jan. 8. The full 2003 spring and summer production schedule with deadlines in parentheses follows: Jan. 20 (Jan. 8), Feb. 3 (Jan. 22), Feb. 17 (Feb. 5), March 3 (Feb. 19), March 17 (March 5), March 31 (March 19), April 21 (Wednesday, April 2, before Spring Break), May 5 (April 23).

Spring Break is scheduled for Monday, April 7-Friday, April 11. Honors Week is scheduled for Monday, April 14- Friday, April 18. Spring commencement is scheduled for Friday, May 16.

UA Libraries Announce Holiday Hours

The following holiday hours apply to Bruno Business Library, Gorgas Library, McLure Education Library and Rodgers Library for Science and Engineering.

The Libraries will be CLOSED on the following dates: Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 14-15; Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 21-22; Tuesday-Wednesday, Dec. 24-25; Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 28-29; Tuesday, Dec. 31; Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003; Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 4-5.

The Libraries will be OPEN on the following dates: Friday, Dec. 13, 7:45 a.m .-7:00 p.m.; Monday-Friday, Dec. 16-20, 7:45 a.m.-4:45 p.m.; Monday, Dec. 23, 10:00 a.m.-4:45 p.m.; Thursday-Friday, Dec. 26-27, 10:00 a.m.-4:45 p.m.; Monday, Dec. 30, 10:00 a.m.-4:45 p.m.; Thursday-Friday, Jan. 2-3, 7:45 a.m.-4:45 p.m.; Monday-Tuesday, Jan. 6-7, 7:45 a.m.-4:45 p.m.
