2002 Homecoming:
The 2002 Homecoming week officially begins Sunday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. with the 14th annual Roll Tide Run. The week will end with the main event, the UA football game against Ole Miss at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 2:30 p.m.
Bob Baumhower is Homecoming Grand Marshal
Baumhower was a two-time All-Southeastern Conference tackle, twice named to All-American teams, a member of the All-Decade team and played in the Senior Bowl during his years at UA. One of the highlights of Baumhower's Crimson Tide career, in which he tallied 153 tackles, was his selection as ABC's "Player of the Game" for making 13 tackles in the 28-0 win over Auburn in 1975. Baumhower continued his football career as a nose tackle with the Miami Dolphins. With this team, he earned recognition as 1977 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, a member of the 1977 All-Rookie Team, 1983 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, five Pro Bowls and several All-AFC and All-NFL teams. Baumhower is the owner of Aloha Hospitality International, which is the parent company of Wings Sports Grille, Calypso and Mango's. He and his wife have four children and currently reside in Baldwin County, Ala. MTV and Lynyrd Skynyrd Add Ingredients to Annual UA Homecoming MTV Music Television adds a new ingredient this year to the entertainment, lawn decorations, parade, pep rally and bonfire that are all part of UA's tradition of celebrating Homecoming Week. The theme for Homecoming Week 2002 is "Reflections." Television's MTV will be on the UA campus Friday, Oct. 18, and Saturday, Oct. 19, to film footage during homecoming activities for a special MTV presentation to air Saturday, Oct. 26, on Tuscaloosa Comcast 31. UA's homecoming will be the backdrop and feature campus for the two-hour "MTV Homecoming," which will also present homecoming activities at four other campuses. The celebrities and crew will be around campus, on the Quad, in the parade and at the game. Friday night's concert on the Quad will feature Lynyrd Skynyrd, known for their songs "Sweet Home Alabama," "Freebird," "What's Your Name" and "Gimme Three Steps."
