Benefits Update: Building Community -- Human Relations for the 21st Century. Human Relations for the 21st Century is designed to develop human relations skills, heighten awareness of others and foster a sense of community throughout the UA campus. Workshops that bear the Building Community logo are available to UA employees.
Continuous Quality Improvement CQI Leadership Seminar Series. CQI workshops are part of the Leadership Seminar Series designed for people in academic and administrative organizations, such as deans, department chairs, directors, managers, assistant and associate directors and faculty who lead projects, or plan on moving into leadership roles. All workshops will be facilitated by John Dew, director for Continuous Quality Improvement. Contact the CQI Office at 348-9831 to schedule workshops, which are designed for 2-4 hours.

New Employee Orientation introduces all new UA employees to campus life and provides them and employees with a status change (regular, part-time or temporary) an opportunity for benefits advisement and enrollment. New employees and employees with status change must pre-register and attend a New Employee Orientation session within the first 30 days of employment to be eligible for health insurance. Human Resources Development training sessions will be conducted at G54 Rose Administration building unless otherwise stated. Persons with special needs should contact Margie Karrh. The Training Resource Center (TRC) offers videos for a staff development "lunch and learn" program. The TRC accommodates six to eight people. Parking permits for 2002-03 were mailed to all UA regular employees. The cost of $45 will be payroll deducted with pre-tax dollars in three monthly or six bi-weekly installments beginning with the first pay period in August. When registering in person (at 103 Student Services building), the UA I.D. card is required. Compass Bank Offers Special Package to UA Faculty and Staff Compass Bank is extending a welcome-back offer to all University of Alabama faculty and staff -- the bank's Bonus Banking package. The package offers free and discounted services at Compass Bank. The free checking account will include:
* Subject to credit approval The non-interest and interest bearing Bonus Banking checking packages require no minimum balance, and any pre-existing Compass account can be changed without changing the account number. New Faculty Benefits Orientation Meetings for new faculty to review, discuss and complete enrollment forms for benefits have been scheduled and are detailed below. Faculty members must be considered Regular Full Time, Tenure Track, or Temporary Full Time to enroll in benefits programs. Each person must enroll in benefits programs within 30 days of his/her appointment date. Faculty members should call or email Margie Karrh (348-7125 or mkarrh@bama.ua.edu) to reserve a seat during one of the sessions. Persons who are beginning their second year appointment are required to enroll in the Alabama Teachers' Retirement System. Any returning faculty member whose appointment expired in May but is reappointed beginning in August will be required to re-enroll in medical and/or dental coverage if (s)he wants to reinstate coverage under the UA plan. Each person should bring birth dates, social security numbers, addresses of dependents and beneficiaries, and existing TIAA/CREF contract numbers. All sessions will be held in HR Development, Room G-54, Rose Administration Building. New faculty are asked to have a file photo taken. These photos will be used in Dialog's introduction of new faculty. The most convenient way is to come to the photography office, G-5 Rose Administration (the same floor as HR Development), 30 minutes before or after a 9 a.m. or 1 p.m. session. Call Jennifer Sanford, photography office assistant, at 348-8332 to confirm these time slots or to reschedule, no later than Tuesday, Aug. 20, by 4:30 p.m. Faculty Benefits Orientation Sessions
