Faculty Resource Center Expands Offerings The Faculty Resource Center has extended its service offerings. In addition to yearlong seminar series, summer technology workshops and on-line courses, the FRC provides selfpaced technology instruction. Currently, these instructions include intermediate Photoshop, advanced Photoshop, FireWorks, Acrobat and Dreamweaver. These instructional workshops are conducted using the FRC wireless mobile computer lab. Faculty members use lap top computers in conjunction with a CD and workbook to complete the course. Student assistants and FRC expert staff are available to help. The workshops may be scheduled at the convenience of the faculty member. FRC recommends a small group working together. For more information or to register for self-paced instruction, call or e-mail Susan Lucas at 348-0216 or susan@frc.ua.edu. The FRC Web site may be accessed at http://frc.ua.edu. Faculty Reserve Items Accessible Electronically All articles, tests, and class notes placed on reserve by faculty in the University Libraries will be available electronically beginning this fall semester. Students will be able to access these items through the Libraries' Catalog from on or off campus. Book chapters or sections of books will be subject to the usual copyright restrictions. Copyright permission may be required for some items placed on reserve. At least 10 working days will be required for processing electronic reserve items, but faculty are requested to submit items for electronic reserve for fall as soon as possible, since this is a new service. The deadline for articles, tests or class notes to be placed on reserve is Aug. 7. Faculty are asked to bring materials to the appropriate library (Bruno, Rodgers, McLure or Gorgas). To avoid scanning problems, the copies should be clean with no highlighting, underlining, or staples. Copies must be on one side only, not duplexed. A reserve form must be filled out. For more information, contact the reserve desk of the appropriate library. Financial Affairs Sponsors Food Drive, Celebration UA's Division of Financial Affairs will hold the third annual celebration of accomplishments for its employees on Wednesday, May 22, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Ferguson Center. This event recaps the year and highlights what Financial Affairs' more than 700 employees have accomplished. This year, the division is also conducting a campus-wide canned food drive to collect 3,019 cans, honoring the victims of the Sept. 11 tragedy. The cans will be donated to the West Alabama Food Bank. Financial Affairs is also inviting other University faculty and staff to participate in the canned food drive as well. Donations may be dropped off through the event date at Rose Administration lobby or at the Ferguson Center information desk. For more inspiration, visit www.september11victims. com, and for more information about the canned food drive, visit http://financialaffairs.ua.edu. The meeting for interested women age 21 and up will be Saturday, May 18, at 11 a.m. in the classroom at the UA Harry Pritchett Golf Center and Course. The purpose of the organizational meeting will be to introduce league members and golfers, meet the golf pro staff, discuss league play, and inform players about the course and its facilities. Regular course fees apply for play. For more information, call Scarlett Tillett at 348-3800. The Golf Center is located at the east end of 15th Street, adjacent to the left side of the VA Hospital Grounds. For directions, contact Chris Sanford at 348-7041.
