LION Available at UA Libraries Site Literature Online (LION), a leading online resource for the study and teaching of English and American Literature, is now available through the University Libraries Web page (www.lib.ua.edu) under the "Databases" link. This resource includes the full text of poetry, drama, and prose works from the eighth century to the present, as well as criticism and reference sources related to literature. LION also offers hyperlinks to Web sites relevant to the study of literature. LION contains more than 325,000 English, American and African-American poems; more than 4,000 works of English and American drama by authors from the late 13th century, and more than 1,100 English and American prose works from 1500 to 1903. LION also links to contemporary criticism in the full texts of 60-plus current literature journals available through The Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature (ABELL). Definitions and contextual material may be found using a cross-searchable reference shelf that incorporates dictionaries of terms and encyclopedias such as The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Literary Terms and The New Princeton Encyclopedia of Poetry and Poetics.
