UA Staff Recognition Continues in 2002 with New Materials

Two years ago The University of Alabama and the Office of Human Resources initiated a series of new recognition and awards programs. These awards were created by employees for staff employees. In those two years, the programs have grown in popularity and impact and are now featured, along with other established awards programs, in a new brochure highlighting the many opportunities staff members have to be recognized and to recognize others for their dedication and contributions to the University.

The success of the new programs is evident in the following facts:

  • Since implementation of the Thank You Dining Card Program, more than 2,000 cards have aided supervisors, team leaders, managers and others in saying "thank you" to employees - on the spot - for going the extra mile to perform their duties.
  • To date, more than 75 employees have been recognized by the Crimson Spirit Award program for exhibiting the winning spirit that makes UA a great place to work.
  • Nine teams have now been recognized with the annual Sam S. May Commitment to Service Award for their efforts to continuously improve service to customers through teamwork and innovation.

New Recognition Materials and Photo Opportunities Available

HR Development is charged with the coordination of the new recognition programs and with the distribution of materials used in conjunction with the new programs. Thank You Dining Cards and Bravo! note cards are now available to deans, directors and department heads. Three convenient methods are available for requesting materials: Contact Margie Karrh via email at mkarrh@bama.ua.edu, phone HRD at 348-7125, or visit HRD in G-54 Rose Administration Building. (See Awards for a list of awards, criteria and how to nominate employees for these special awards.)

Crimson Spirit Winners who wish to have their picture taken for Dialog and for office records may come to the photography department in G-5 Rose Administration Building on Wednesdays, Feb. 20, March 6 and March 20, any time from 2-4 p.m. to have photos made. No appointment is necessary. For information, contact Jennifer Sanford at 348-8332.
