Professor and Alabama Constitution Expert Offers Seminar

UA journalism professor Dr. Bailey Thomson is presenting a special educational seminar on Alabama Constitution reform Friday, Feb. 15, from 3-5 p.m. in Ferguson Forum. This seminar is open to faculty, staff and students and is designed to aid in making informed decisions about what and how to change the state's constitution.

With more than 700 amendments, it is the longest in the United States and shifts the power to act on behalf of education and other areas to the Legislature, rather than to local and home officials and individuals.

The seminar, which comes just before Higher Ed Day in Montgomery scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 21, is being sponsored by the UA Faculty Senate, the Higher Ed Partnership and the Alabama Citizens for Constitutional Reform organization. For more information, contact Faculty Senate president Dr. Norm Baldwin at 348-3813 or HEP's UA board member Margaret Garner at 348-2884. For an update of legislative matters, see Advisory.
