Kids of All Ages: The Halloween Festival

Come out and "trick or treat" with The University of Alabama student-athletes Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 7:30-8:30 p.m. in the indoor practice facility located on the campus of The University of Alabama. Sponsored by the Student-Athlete Advisory Board.

Phi Beta Kappa Lecture Scheduled

The annual UA Phi Beta Kappa
Lecture is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 12, 125 ten Hoor. Dr. J. William Schopf, director of UCLA’s Center for the Study of Evolution and the Origin of Life and professor of paleobiology, will deliver “Discovery of Earth’s Earliest Fossils - Solution of Darwin’s Dilemma” at 7:30 p.m. The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception follows in the Summersell Room of ten Hoor (room 251).

Discoverer of the oldest fossils known, Schopf is the author of several books, including Cradle of Life, winner of the 2000 Phi Beta Kappa Award in Science. He is the recipient of medals awarded by the National Academy of Sciences, the National Science Board, and the International Society for the Study of the Origin of Life. He received his Ph.D at Harvard University in 1968.

UA’s Black Warrior Review begins its 28th year with a new issue and a Web site. This latest issue of BWR features cover artwork by Kentuck artist Kathleen V. Fetters, fiction from Rick Bass, an interview with T.C. Boyle, a screenplay by poet Anne Carson and much more. The Web site is a means of increasing visibility and readership and a forum for featuring exclusive material.
