2016 Pre-Retirement Planning Series Opens

During the month of November, the UA Benefits Office will present the 2016 Pre-Retirement Planning Series, information-filled sessions designed for employees planning to retire within the next five years.

The series offers a roadmap to get from “here” to there” in retirement. Each session will be facilitated by a lead professional to provide information and to answer questions.

Facilitators include representatives from the Alabama Teachers’ Retirement System, TIAA-CREF, VALIC and the Social Security Administration. All sessions will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Smith Hall, Room 205. Spouses are welcome to attend with employees.

Tuesday, Nov. 1 – Alabama Teachers’ Retirement System

Kit Gallup, TRS director of field services, and Amy Stewart, RSA field services, will discuss the retirement process and deadlines, retirement income options, DROP, RSA-1 and the health insurance plan offered through the Public Education Employees’ Health Insurance Plan (PEEHIP).

Tuesday, Nov. 15 – TIAA-CREF

James Kelley, senior relationship manager, will discuss annuities, lifetime retirement income, minimum distribution options, systematic withdrawals and how to live well in retirement.

Tuesday, Nov. 22 – VALIC

Paige Lombardy, Certified Fund Specialist, will address important areas of retirement and investment planning, including action steps and strategies to help employees achieve their retirement goals.

Tuesday, Nov. 29 – Social Security Administration

Representatives from SSA will help employees understand how to qualify for Social Security benefits, how their earnings and age can affect their benefits, what they should think about in deciding when to retire and why they should not count on only Social Security for their retirement income. This session will also feature information about eligibility for Medicare, when to sign up and understanding Parts A, B, C and D.
