TRANSITION TO BLACKBOARD LEARN DEADLINE AUG. 3 — The University is moving from eLearning to Blackboard Learn this year. In order to reuse any course content from the eLearning system, instructors must request that their course materials be migrated. The deadline to request migrated content for Fall Semester 2012 is Friday, Aug. 3, at 5 p.m. Requests received after the deadline cannot be guaranteed to be ready for fall. Visit http://frc.ua.edu and click on Blackboard Learn Transition to learn more about Blackboard Learn and the transition, including requesting content migration from eLearning, creating and combining Banner-integrated Fall 2012 Blackboard Learn courses, saving student data out of eLearning and viewing a side-by-side comparison of the old and new systems. For more information, send an email to blackboard.learn@ua.edu or call 348-3532.
SUPE STORE FREE SHIPPING — Friday, Aug. 3, is the last day to take advantage of the University Supply Store’s offer of free USPS ground shipping on all online-textbook orders over $200. Faculty, staff and students can use the code “TEXTFREESHIP” at checkout to redeem this special offer.
REQUESTS FOR FALL COURSE MATERIALS — The University Supply Store encourages all instructors who have not submitted fall course materials (e.g., textbooks, supplies, kits) to the SUPe Store to do so as soon as possible. Instructors are also encouraged to submit class notes, PowerPoint notes, course packets and anthologies to the SUPe Store’s Academic Publishing Services department for fall publication. For more information on the Academic Publishing Service, contact Jeff Smith at 348-9654 or jwsmith@bama.ua.edu or visit the SUPe Store’s website at http://www.supestore.ua.edu.

The patrol should take approximately two weeks, depending on the weather. The airplane that will perform the patrol is blue and white with tail number N1207E.
In addition to the routine inspection, an aerial inspection of vegetation will be performed. The helicopter expected to perform the vegetation inspection is black, red and white with tail number N206BW.
FACULTY AND STAFF PARKING DURING MOVE-IN PERIOD FOR STUDENTS — Many UA students will be moving into residence halls Aug. 9-10 and Aug. 16-17. TIPS FOR ESTABLISHING WATER SERVICE — During this time of year, many new faculty, staff and students are moving to Tuscaloosa. Following are some helpful tips to make establishing or transferring water service quicker and easier.
The city of Tuscaloosa has posted forms on its website that will allow customers to apply for new accounts or transfer existing accounts. The forms and their instructions can be found at http://www.tuscaloosa.com/index.aspx?nid=1050.
Customers who already have accounts with the city of Tuscaloosa can pay bills (with no service charge), view their past 12 bills and review account usage information online at https://tuscaloosa.munisselfservice.com/citizens/UtilityBilling/Default.aspx. Customers will need to have their account numbers and customer IDs to use this service. If they do not have this information readily available, they can email ubcontact@tuscaloosa.com with the account holder’s name and service address to request it.
REGISTRATION OF WIRELESS DEVICES — Users can now register their wireless devices with UA Public Wireless or UA ResNet Wireless. When users attempt to connect to either for the first time, they will be redirected to UA’s Device Registration Page. Following this redirection will be a page that will load a secure client onto the device so that the user can connect to UA’s secure wireless network, or UA-WPA2.
The Office of Information Technology has announced that UA Public Wireless and UA ResNet will only be available until Sept. 1, at which time the networks will be removed. This will allow all UA wireless users to maintain a secure wireless connection using UA-WPA2.
BAN OF TEXTING WHILE DRIVING — UA’s Office of Risk Management reminds operators of vehicles owned, leased or rented by the University that Alabama House Bill 2 became effective Aug. 1. HB 2 prohibits the use of a wireless device to write, send or read a text message, instant message or email while operating a motor vehicle. UA’s Driver Safety and Vehicle Management Program requires drivers to comply with all traffic laws, including HB 2, while operating a vehicle owned, leased or rented by the University.
