ANNOUNCEMENTS
LISTSERV CHANGE — The Office of Information Technology announces that the preferred Listserv host name will change from bama.ua.edu to listserv.ua.edu at 6 a.m. on Thursday, June 14. A Listserv email sent after that time will use “listserv.ua.edu” instead of “bama.ua.edu” to refer to itself. For example, Dialog Extra, published via the UA Listserv, will show that it was sent to UA@listserv.ua.edu rather than UA@bama.ua.edu. Existing lists will accept email under either host name, but new lists will work only with listserv.ua.edu. People who use Listserv should update their contacts and bookmarks to reflect the change. Listserv’s bama.ua.edu addresses will still work after the change but will no longer be the preferred way to reach Listserv. People who use rules to sort or filter email they receive from Listserv may need to update their rules if they contain references to the hostname bama.ua.edu. The change in host name is being made to move Listserv to a dedicated system that will be better protected against hardware, software or network failure.
DISTRIBUTION DATES FOR WELLBAMA REWARD CARDS — WellBama Rewards $25 Visa cards will be distributed, along with 2012 WellBama T-shirts, at the following locations and times: 205 Gorgas Library, June 14, 9-11 a.m.; Brewer-Porch Children’s Center, June 14, 3-4 p.m.; Denny Chimes, June 15, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; and Rose Administration Building (basement), June 20, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. All participants must present their individual Action Cards at one of the designated distribution sites in order to receive their rewards cards. Click here for information on the WellBama program sponsored by UA’s Office of Health Promotion and Wellness.
EXCHANGE 2010 UPGRADE — On June 20, the Office of Information Technology will upgrade UA’s Exchange server to Exchange 2010. For most people on campus, the upgrade will happen behind the scenes without any user interaction or adverse impact. However, because of the variety of operating systems on campus, some users may have to manually change their server information within their mail clients. This is a necessary and overdue upgrade, and further delay will not mitigate the potential complications. Anyone who begins receiving errors when accessing their mail clients on June 20 should click here for detailed instructions for various mail clients. Anyone who continues to have issues should contact the IT Service Desk at itsd@ua.edu or 205-348-5555.
SUMMER FAMILY MAKEOVER — Registration is underway for UA’s annual Summer Family Makeover, a free five-week program designed to help families develop healthy eating and living habits. The event kicks off June 22 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Outdoor Pool Complex. Weekly events and prize drawings will be held throughout the program. For more information or to register, contact the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness at 348-0077 or wellness@ua.edu or visit http://wellness.ua.edu.
MEMORY SCREENING FOR SENIORS — Free memory screenings will be held throughout the summer at Capstone Village for those who wish to participate. Graduate students in UA’s doctoral psychology program are conducting the screenings under the supervision of a licensed clinical psychologist. People concerned about whether their forgetfulness is normal or possibly an indicator of serious cognitive decline might be interested in undergoing a screening. Each screening is expected to last no longer than one hour. People who are identified with potential memory problems will be referred for a more extensive evaluation. Those who wish to participate should call 205-348-1921 and leave a message, their names, telephone numbers and convenient times to be contacted.
CONSTRUCTION AT FERGUSON CENTER — Construction fences have been placed at three locations around the Ferguson Center for an ongoing expansion project to the East Dining area, Supply Store and Game Room. The work will be done in the evening. For more information, send an email to April Sanders at asanders@sa.ua.edu.

WORTH QUOTING — “Experimenting with combustion can be quite noisy and unstable, shaking the whole building, but when you put the foam in place, you can talk to the person next to you. It’s a night and day difference.” Dr. Ajay K. Agrawal, UA professor of mechanical engineering, as quoted in Phys.org. Agrawal has been granted a patent for a breakthrough technology for noise reduction in combustion.
