ANNOUNCEMENTS

STUDENT EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS — All University faculty and staff who supervise student employees have until Friday, Feb. 17, by 5 p.m. to nominate student workers for the 2012 Student Employee of the Year Award. Nomination forms and detailed information are available at the UA human resources website at http://hr.ua.edu. For more information, contact Vaishali Patel at vpatel@fa.ua.edu or 348-4354.

PSA NOMINATIONS — The deadline to nominate representatives to serve on the Professional Staff Assembly is Monday, Feb. 20, at noon. Each division on campus is entitled to elect one representative to the PSA for every 15 professional staff members. Election ballots will be mailed by Feb. 27, and results will be announced by March 30. For more information, visit the PSA website or email Curt Ward.

NSF CAREER AWARD WORKSHOPS — Faculty members who are considering applying for a National Science Foundation CAREER Award are encouraged to attend an upcoming informational workshop. Past awardees will lead the workshops and answer questions. The workshops will be held on Feb. 21 at 8:30 a.m. in 149 H.M. Comer Hall, March 1 at noon in 2105 Shelby Hall and March 28 at 3 p.m. in 149 H.M. Comer Hall. INTRODUCTORY-PERIOD EVALUATIONS — The UA Department of Human Resources has created an online system for initiating and completing introductory-period performance evaluations. Introductory period evaluations are due prior to the completion of a new employee’s first six months of employment. Training sessions have begun for supervisors who have employees who are due for upcoming evaluations. Click here for training dates and times.

SNOW LEOPARD UPDATE ISSUE — The Office of Information Technology recently became aware of an issue with a security patch from Apple for iMacs running Snow Leopard. Click here to read an article about the situation. People running any of the programs listed in the article should be aware that applying the security update could cause printing errors, glitches and crashes when quitting an application.

NEW GOOGLE PRIVACY POLICY — Starting March 1, Google’s privacy policy will change, allowing Google to correlate a user’s personal activities and to tailor a user’s experience. Users of Gmail, Google Maps, Google+, Google Calendar, Android mobile phones, Google Search Engine and other Google applications will be affected by the new policy. The policy does not apply to Google applications for education, business or government. Users of crimson.ua.edu will not be affected.
