UA Homecoming Features Theme ‘Share the Pride, Celebrate the Tide!’

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama tradition of Homecoming Week will have a theme of “Share the Pride, Celebrate the Tide!” with campus events Sunday, Oct. 10-Saturday, Oct. 16.

The annual Homecoming Pep Rally and Bonfire will be held on the Quad Friday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. when the 2010 Homecoming Queen will be announced.

The Homecoming Parade will take place Saturday, Oct. 16, time to be announced, from downtown Tuscaloosa to the UA campus.  Tyrone Prothro, former UA wide receiver, will be parade grand marshal. Prothro is known for his outstanding catch against Southern Mississippi in 2005, which later earned him the Best Play award at the 2006 ESPY Awards and the Pontiac Game Changing Award of the Year.

The highlight of the week will be the UA football game against the University of Mississippi at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 16, time to be announced.

The Homecoming Step Show, presented by the National Pan-Hellenic Council, will be held Friday, Oct. 15, at 8 p.m. at Foster Auditorium. Tickets for the show are on sale at www.crimsonartstickets.com or at the Ferguson Center box office. Tickets are $15 if purchased in advance or $20 at the door for both students and the general public.

The week will begin with the 22nd annual Roll Tide Run on Sunday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m.  The run is set to begin on Capstone Drive, with registration and check-in held at the rear entrance of Gorgas Library. The Crimson Kickoff powder puff charity football game will also be held that Sunday from 2:30-4 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center intramural fields.

Paint the Town Red and the Banner Competition will begin Monday, Oct. 11, as campus organizations show their school spirit across Tuscaloosa. The UA Homecoming Bowling Tournament is also planned for Oct. 11 and will begin at 9:30 p.m. at Bama Bowl on 15th St.

The Homecoming Queen election will be held Tuesday, Oct. 12, with online voting from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. at www.mybama.ua.edu.  Also on that Tuesday, the Homecoming Basketball Tournament is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center, and the Talent Show, co-sponsored by University Programs, will be held at 6 p.m. in the Ferguson Center.

On Wednesday, Oct. 13, students can participate in the Homecoming Dodgeball Competition at 7 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center.  Events on Thursday, Oct. 14, include the Homecoming Choreography Contest in Coleman Coliseum at 6 p.m.

Students will also participate in Homecoming Service Projects throughout the week.
