ANNOUNCEMENTS
ROAD CLOSURES
- Campus Drive East will close for repaving beginning at 5 a.m. on July 30 and should reopen by the morning of Aug. 2, pending no delays because of inclement weather. During this time, motorists will not be able to access Highway 82 (McFarland Boulevard) from Campus Drive; they can use University Boulevard instead. Motorists taking the Highway 82 West ramp onto Campus Drive will be able to turn right only. Contact James Adams, project manager, at 348-8155 or 966-8457 with questions or concerns.
- Sixth Avenue between Paul Bryant Drive and Foster Auditorium will close by 7 a.m. on Aug. 2 and will reopen by 7 a.m. on Aug. 3 as part of the construction work at Foster Auditorium. See a map of the affected area at the UA Parking Services website.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MAINTENANCE REMINDER — The Office of Information Technology performs routine maintenance on servers and systems every Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon. Many IT services may be offline intermittently during this time. Network access and computing resources availability (Banner, E-Learning, Exchange server, etc.) may also be affected. Since this is a low-usage period, fewer UA customers will be impacted. For questions, contact the HelpDesk at 348-4357 or Help.Desk@ua.edu.
ELECTRICAL SHUTDOWN AUG. 1 — Power to the following facilities will be temporarily suspended from 3:30 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m. while Alabama Power performs utility work. In the event inclement weather is forecast for Aug. 1, the work will occur July 31. If you have questions or concerns, contact James Adams, project manager, at 348-8155 or 966-8457.

BENEFITS FOR NEW FACULTY — New faculty members should refer to the Faculty Benefits Matrix to determine if they are eligible to enroll in benefits programs. New faculty must enroll in eligible benefits programs within 30 days of their appointment dates. Meetings to review, discuss and complete enrollment forms for benefits have been scheduled. Click here for dates and other pertinent information. Each person should bring dependent and beneficiary information (birth dates, Social Security numbers and addresses) and, if applicable, proof of previous medical and dental insurance coverage. Go here to access the online registration site. Once at the site, click on the Employee Orientation and Onboarding link and select a session date. GRANT COMPETITION IN PROGRESS — The School of Social Work is in the national running for a $50,000 grant to teach technology to older adults. UA faculty and staff can help secure the grant by going to http://www.refresheverything.com/bama and voting one time per day during July. NOV. 17 AND 18 CAMPUS EVENTS — The University is making plans for Thursday, Nov. 18, the new date of the UA vs. Georgia State football game, and would like to be informed of all campus events planned for Nov. 17 and 18. Anyone with events or activities scheduled for those dates should send information to Trent Barnes, assistant director of games and event management, at tbarnes@ia.ua.edu.
HISPANIC-LATINO HERITAGE MONTH — Crossroads Community Center invites all faculty and staff to participate in meetings to plan events for this year’s Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month. The meetings will be held Aug. 9 and Aug. 24 at 3 p.m. in 204-A Ferguson Student Center. Crossroads Community Center coordinates the scheduling of all programs to avoid conflicts and will publish a poster with the calendar of events. The poster will be displayed around campus. The deadline to submit items for inclusion on the poster’s calendar is Aug. 28. Contact Beverly Hawk at beverly.hawk@ua.edu for more information. UA will recognize Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month on Sept. 15-Oct. 15.
CAMPUS RECYCLING — All faculty and staff are encouraged to recycle paper, cardboard, aluminum and steel cans, magazines, directories and plastics. Recycling reduces the amount of waste in landfills and promotes sustainability on campus. Recycling bins are located across campus and in buildings. EDUCATION HONOR SOCIETY INFORMATION SOCIAL — Women educators who want to learn about the benefits of membership in Delta Kappa Gamma Society International are invited to a social on Aug. 8 from 2-4 p.m. in Alumni Hall on the UA campus. Gamma Psi, the Tuscaloosa chapter, will host the event. Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a professional honorary of women educators that promotes professional and personal growth of its members and excellence in education.
