ANNOUNCEMENTS
HELP SUPPORT NICK SABAN AND A WORTHWHILE CHARITY — Coach Nick Saban has been nominated for Liberty Mutual’s Coach of the Year. The coach who receives the most votes in an online fan contest wins a $50,000 donation to his favorite charity and a $20,000 donation to his school’s alumni association for scholarships. Individuals can vote once a day at http://www.coachoftheyear.com/ through Dec. 29.
CAMPUS HOLIDAY MAIL SERVICE – Campus Mail Service has adjusted its schedule for the upcoming holiday break. Mail-delivery clerks will run their afternoon routes on Wednesday, Dec. 23. Collections will also be made from Centralized Afternoon Pick-up Service drop boxes at regular times. Items placed in CAPS drop boxes after 2 p.m. will be processed after the holiday break. Outgoing mail to be processed before the holiday break that is not collected on regular mail routes should be brought to the mail center by noon on Dec. 23. No mail delivery will occur during the break. Deans, directors and department heads may authorize personnel to collect mail for their areas if prior arrangements are made before the end of the day on Friday, Dec. 18, via a memorandum to Mike Butts at Box 870238. Authorized personnel who present a faculty-staff ID can collect mail on Thursday, Dec. 31, from 10 a.m. to noon. The Campus Mail customer service counter is Room 124 inside the Ancillary Services Building at 1115 14th Street.
CAMPUS TRANSIT HOLIDAY SCHEDULES — Crimson Ride buses and 348-RIDE vans are operating adjusted schedules during the holiday break. Crimson Ride has ceased operation through Jan. 5, 2010. Perimeter routes will operate Jan. 6-10 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The 348-RIDE services will operate through Dec. 23 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; will not operate Dec. 24-Jan. 3; will operate on demand Jan. 4-5 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and will operate Jan. 6-10 from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Regular hours of operation for both services will resume Jan. 11.
FERGUSON STUDENT CENTER HOLIDAY HOURS — The Ferguson Student Center holiday hours are as follows: today-Dec. 18, 7 a.m.-6 p.m.; Dec. 19-20, closed; Dec. 21-23, 7 a.m.-6 p.m.; Dec. 24-Jan. 2, closed; Jan. 3, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Jan. 4-6, 7 a.m.-6 p.m.; Jan 7, 7 a.m.-midnight (resume normal hours).
UAPD TRAINING AFFECTING PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC — The UA Police Department is conducting routine training exercises through Friday, Dec. 18, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the East Engineering and Houser Annex buildings. The buildings are scheduled to be demolished to make way for the next building in the Science and Engineering Quad. Pedestrian traffic should avoid the area.
INTERSECTION OF SEVENTH AVENUE AND CAMPUS DRIVE CLOSED — The intersection of Seventh Avenue and Campus Drive is closed until after the holidays for site construction work on phase three of the Science and Engineering Complex. Work on the storm drainage waterline will be done at this intersection (near the north Ferguson Student Center parking lot in front of the Mineral Industries Building). The east side of the Ferguson Student Center and the College of Engineering buildings can be accessed from Margaret Drive at Hackberry Lane by way of Capstone Drive. Motorists are asked to adjust their driving plans accordingly.

NOTECARDS BENEFIT STUDENT ART SCHOLARSHIPS — Artwork by undergraduate fine arts students in the department of art and art history have been made into notecards and are now for sale. Proceeds go toward research scholarships for undergraduate students in the department. A packet of 15 cards costs $20 and features five designs. To buy the notecards, call the department at 348-5967.
UA PRESS REDESIGNS WEB SITE — The University of Alabama Press, which will celebrate 65 years of publishing in 2010, recently launched its redesigned Web site at http://www.uapress.ua.edu. The new site has improved functionality, offers greater detail of each title offered by the Press, allows users to create accounts and join an e-mail list, and provides potential authors more information about the Press’ services. The Press is also expanding its list of titles available as e-books. Currently, readers can purchase e-books through the Press’ Web site or through http://ebooks.com. With more than 275 titles available as high-resolution PDFs, and with prices as low as $9.99 for recent titles, the Press is also venturing into making its titles available through more outlets, such as Amazon’s Kindle.
