WORTH QUOTING – “Marriage signifies inheritance as well as the way in which one traces one’s lineage. The woman taking the man’s name signifies her leaving her own family and taking on the identity of the husband and his family, which is why it has been problematic for women.” Dr. DoVeanna S. Fulton Minor, chair of the women’s studies department and director of the African American Studies Program at UA, as quoted in the Florence Times Daily.
