UA Receives $2 Million Gift from EBSCO Industries Inc.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.— Birmingham-based EBSCO Industries Inc. has made a $2 million gift to The University of Alabama’s “Our Students. Our Future.” capital campaign. The gift will be divided between UA’s Libraries and the Honors College.

“It is EBSCO’s hope that our contribution will serve to enrich the lives of many at the University and in the state of Alabama for years to come,” said F. Dixon Brooke Jr., president and CEO of EBSCO Industries Inc.

The University Libraries will receive $1.5 million to support digitizing the Libraries’ unique collections, expanding the Libraries’ outreach and enhancing technical infrastructure. Digitizing UA’s Hoole Special Collections ensures the preservation of its unique holdings while also allowing increased opportunities for university students, scholars, alumni, and K-12 teachers and students to access the holdings through the Libraries’ Web site.

“The generous gift from EBSCO Industries helps us better serve our students, faculty and staff, but it also expands the University’s reach to a much larger audience across the state and nation,” said UA President Robert E. Witt. “EBSCO’s commitment to the University serves as a leadership gift and we hope it will inspire others to give generously to the University.”

Honors College will receive $500,000 for need-based, merit-based scholarships which are instrumental in recruiting the best and brightest students. The scholarship portion of EBSCO’s gift will support the College’s mission to empower its students to achieve their peak potential and to be recognized for that achievement.

The “Our Students. Our Future.” campaign’s $500 million goal includes $250 million for student scholarships. The remaining funds are allocated to faculty support, facilities and priority needs. The campaign has raised more than $391 million since 2002.
